What is ICEGATE?

ICEGATE is an online platform developed by Indian customers to provide electronic services related to customs clearance, import and export documentation, and trade compliance. It is administered by Indian Customs, part of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which is responsible for managing trade, cargo carriers, and other trading partners. It facilitates e-filing services for customs brokers (license/F-card and G-card holders), IEC holders (and their authorized representatives), shipping lines, shipping agents, airlines, air agents, console agents, and various other stakeholders.

 The portal bridges the gap between customs authorities and importers, exporters, and various stakeholders in international trade.

ICEGATE is interconnected with several partner agencies, such as the RBI, banks, DGFT, DGCIS, the Ministry of Steel, the Directorate of Valuation, and other government agencies involved in EXIM trade, facilitating quicker customs clearance. All the electronic communication and documents are managed and proceeded by ICEGATE and are managed at the customs end by the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES).

Some essential points tp consider

  • It is mandatory for customs clearance of export-import shipment in India
  • The authorized code is provided by the authorized bank in India, i.e., the Reserve Bank of India.
  • There is no need to renew the ICEGATE unless the additional changes are brought into a bank account.
  • Forex accounts should be linked with the ICEGATE 2.0 portal digitally.

Need for ICEGATE Registration

It is mandatory for exporters in India to register their Authorised Dealer (AD) Code and bank account information with the relevant customs authorities for remittances and avail export benefits at each customs station. Although it is a one-time process, it involves direct interaction between the customs authorities and the trader, along with the submission of physical documents. The process requires the exporters or their representatives to personally visit the Customs House.

Documents Required for Icegate Registration (AD Code)

  • New registration of AD Code along with bank account details for foreign remittance purposes and IFSC with bank account for IGST refund/withdrawal
  • Bank authorization letter in the format provided as Annexure
  • A Copy of the IEC
  • A copy of the GST registration certificate
  • A copy of the PAN card of the company/partnership entity
  • A copy of the PAN card of the authorised signatory in the bank account
  • A copy of a canceled cheque

To modify the registered IFSC code associated with the bank account for the purpose of IGST refund or drawback, you will require the following documents

  • Bank authorization letter in the format provided in Annexure-A
  • Copy of the IEC
  • Copy of the GST registration certificate
  • Copy of the company or partnership entity’s PAN card
  • Copy of the PAN card of the authorized signatory in the bank account
  • Copy of a canceled cheque
  • NOC from the bank whose account is being changed
  • A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the bank associated with the account registered in ICES, needs to be updated.
